When you put your wipers and your lights on, or when you turn on heated seats, all these electronic devices use 12V power. On a 48V architecture, there is a second 48V battery, in parallel of the 12V standard one, used to store energy in order to supply the electronic devices both on 48V and 12V networks.
Therefore, the electronic current needs to be converted from 48V to 12V and this is the role of the DC/DC converter: it is the interface between the 48V battery and the 12V electronic devices of the car.
