The new S-Class has an approximately 7 percent lower steel content at 42.5 percent, while the proportion of light alloys is around 5 percent higher and the proportion of polymers 2 percent higher than in the predecessor model. The main constructional differences compared with the predecessor model are as follows:
- Increased use of aluminium in the body (e.g. roof, frontend) and in the axles
- Cockpit cross member of hybrid design (light alloy/plastic)
- Plastic fuel tank
Plastic tank: –18.2 kg
HELLA supplies the new S class with rotatorical micro actuator for the fuel tank and the distance adjusting cruise control.
