AB12 (airbag control unit, generation 12)
To improve performance and evaluation of the restraint system’s triggering decision, peripheral acceleration sensors can be installed in the vehicle.
The vehicle’s restraint systems are only triggered by the airbag control unit, after a plausibility check has been completed. This check is based on the data from the central and peripheral sensors.
The peripheral acceleration sensors verify the triggering decision more quickly than lateral acceleration sensors integrated into the airbag control unit.
The pressure tube sensor from Bosch provides a pressure-based sensor system designed to detect collisions with pedestrians.
The pressure tube sensor is connected to the airbag control unit via a PSI5 interface (peripheral sensor interface) that controls the power supply as well as the transfer of data.
