This innovative product is a response to the increasing demand for Powered Two-Wheelers (PTW) globally, which is projected to grow by over 37% in the next five years. The Soft Scooter 360 is designed to help improve the safety of PTW riders, who account for more than half of all road traffic fatalities worldwide. It also meets the ISO/WD 19206-5 standard and is compatible with C-NCAP 2021 protocols.
The Soft Scooter 360 is a highly realistic product that features a photorealistic vinyl skin, speed-matched rotating wheels, and a micro-Doppler effect. Alongside realism, durability is also a key feature of the Soft Scooter 360, with a separate rider piece mounted to the scooter rather than being an integrated section. The product is supported by a tubular structure that is surrounded by a lightweight foam and minimises hard points, which helps to reduce damage to test vehicles. It is also capable of withstanding front and side impact speeds of 40kph and 60kph, respectively.
The test scenarios it can be used for includes:
- Lane cut-in – where the scooter overtakes and cuts into the same lane as the test vehicle
- Blind spot – where the test vehicle attempts to change lanes with the scooter positioned in the test vehicle’s blind spot
- Intersections – where the scooter and test vehicle (in close proximity) cross the intersection perpendicular to each other at the same time
- Turn across path – the test vehicle turns across the path of the scooter, requiring intervention to prevent a collision
